Downtown Raleigh

Spent a few minutes walking around downtown Raleigh the other day. There are always a lot of interesting things to shoot pictures of as you walk around.

Nice shot of the NC state general assembly building.

B&W conversion of a couple of cranes working.

One of the many walks between buildings with some interesting angles and lighting.

Random Pics

Haven't posted any on this blog for a while so I thought I better post something. These shots don't really fit into a logical grouping so random pic day... Yippee.

1st pic is a classic view of the Mast general store in Valle Crucis.

This shot was taken at Lake Gaston just after a Spring storm had passed by.

A yacht positions itself to watch the nightly light and sound show that is displayed accross many of the famous buildings of Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong.

Bad day for the wheelbarrow man.

Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain is one of the iconic places in the North Carolina Mountains. It's a place that defines the mountains. It was also I place my family had never visited until recently. There is plenty to see from the famous "Mile High" swinging bridge to the animal habitats, but it is also a place of simpler things like a picnic spot right beside the road with a majestic view. It's a very enjoyable place to visit for the day.

The Swinging Bridge.

The golden eagle that lives in the habitat area.

Deer grazing in their habitat.

The blog seems to be in a bit a bear rut but how can you resist a cool bear.

My favourite shot from the animal habitats. I've been trying to come up with a clever title for this shot. Shaken not Stirred? Bearnami?

Dragon flies at Bass Lake park.

My wife and I spent a nice, but hot, Sunday morning at the Bass lake park a couple of weeks ago. I spent the time hiking and taking pictures of the various dragon flies who were also enjoying the sun. Thanks to my wife for being patient while I'm played with the camera.

I think this shot is my favourite.

Do you think the green coloration is a camouflage scheme? Matches the green leaves almost perfectly.

Love the sunlight caught on the delicate wings.

Mostly Monotone

I've been playing around with the more artistic side of photography lately. The two lower images were from my archives. The first picture was shot recently with intentions of printing in black and white.

NC Zoo

Our Family loves the zoo and I love photography. So naturally when we go to the zoo the camera has to come along. I was lucky on this trip and caught the Grizzly bear in an active mood despite the high NC temps.

Hanging out at the pool is always a great way to pass the time on a humid Summer afternoon.

Found this beautiful lizard hanging out and posing for me in the Sonora Desert exhibit.

Got this great close in shot of a flamingo. I really enjoy shooting the flamingos because they interact so much that there always seems to be something going on with them. If they are all standing around quietly just wait a few minutes and a group of them are bound to have a disagreement over something.

Flooding in Fuquay!

I hadn't intended for this blog to be a current events blog, but I got some nice shots of our local park flooding today after a brief but intense storm. I guess anywhere can be subject to flooding if it rains hard enough. Kudos to the town of Fuquay for getting barriers up at the flooded road quickly. Hopefully everyone in town was safe and the damage is minimal.

The corner of W spring and S Spring should have been renamed River street in the evening of Wednesday the June 2nd.

The water continued to rush along flooding out the park and springs. Hopefully the damage won't be to severe when the waters recede.

While not nearly as bad as the flooding in the Springs park, the lake on East Academy Street was about a full as it could get without really flooding. The slight wash over Raleigh road was not enough to deter these two young joggers.
